TOUR  1
                                                              Horse Riding- 3 Nights / 4 Days  
Day 1:All meals-Included!  
 Pickup Maseru airport late afternoon and transfer to Lodge.

Day2 :All meals-Excluded.   
Depart after breakfast,with pack horse and local guide. The pony trek will be+- 7 hours (21kms). There is a café selling cold beer and drinks at Ha Lebona about halfway. Leave gear in hut, walk to bottom of the Ribaneng waterfall. 
Overnight : Rural Village.   

Day3: All meals-Included.  
Return to the lodge. Insist on the circular route back to Malealea, i.e. a slightly different route alongside the Ribaneng river. The duration of the hike is about 4-5 hours return, depending on one’s fitness!
Overnight at  Lodge.  

Day 4- All meals-own cost!  
After breakfast at lodge, depart for a +- 3 hours hike to view San Rock Art Paintings in overhanging rock shelters. 
San Rock Art Hike+- 3 Hours. Echo Caves 1 & 2.
Take a leisurely hike,with local guide through rural farmlands and scenic villages along the way! We will stop at a village perched overlooking the Makhaleng River Valley. From here well descend via a single bridle track/pathway at a +-35 degree gradient towards the Makhaleng river basin! Our guide will lead the way and give explanations along the way,about the area we are about to enter! Please be careful of the footing,as it becomes very treacherous at various points! The 2 x caves are called-Tohlang place 1 and 2 and the whole area is called-Lehaha Le Eabuoy Ego Caves-which means ,the caves of Echoes!
The San Rock Art painted onto the walls of bare rock ,are the best descriptions ,I’ve not seen preserved in a very long time! Once reaching these caves our guide will give a descriptive history of the San People and their nomadic history throughout Lesotho. The description of the paintings will be described and each illustration will be discussed in detail! The ascent back to the top of the plateau, will be uphill all the way and stops will be made for photographs and a rest stop. We have a choice of either returning back to Malealea Lodge for lunch and departing for Maseru airport .Arrival Maseru airport by 14H00.

  • Every guest on tour is entering a rural and unspoiled African terrain. Therefore it is necessary to travel with a flexible and tolerant mind.
  • Accommodations, bathroom facilities and meals are at most places very basic, simple and rustic.
  • Most lunch stops base on packed lunches or picnic meals.
  • There are no toilet facilities on route or very seldom.
  • We reserve the right to alter any routes or itineraries should circumstances, like weather, road conditions, unforeseen obstacles, etc. so demand.
·     Some accommodations use generators for the supply of electricity, which switches off at 22:00, and gas geysers for hot water supply.  

TOUR 2
                                                       Overland Pony Trekking/Horse Riding – 7 Nights / 8 Days 
Visit 3 of Lesotho’s highest waterfalls - Ribaneng Falls- 117 meters, Ketane Falls-134 meters and Maletsunyane falls -204 meters. 
   
Day 1-All meals-Included!
Transfer from Maseru airport to overnight at lodge.

Day 2- All meals-Included!  
The first day of the pony trek is about 7 hours (21kms). There is a café selling cold and drinks at Ha Lebona about halfway. When you get to the overnight huts, you can leave your gear in the hut and you have the option of going on a guided walk to the bottom of the Ribaneng waterfall. The duration of the hike is about 3 hours return.

Day 3: All meals-Included!
About 7 hours with stops.  Insist on seeing the top of the waterfall on day two, although this will add another hour onto the duration of the trek..  The Chief Matias, put gear in the hit, hire a guide and hike to the Ketene Waterfall for about 2 hours.

Day 4: All meals-Included!
The Lodge   (5 hrs.).  Arrive by 1 and then spend the afternoon exploring the falls ask your guide to take you via The Maletsunyane falls on the way to Lodge- 
Definitely time ,for hot shower and candle lit dinner.
Overnight Lodge.

Day 5:  All meals-Included!
5 hours with stops. Arrive at the village of Ha Hlalele, (Chief Matias), put gear in the hit, hire guide and hike to the Ketene Waterfall about 2 hours. 
Overnight at the Rural Village .   

Day 6: All meals-Included!
About 7 hours to SEKOTENG, a beautiful Village surrounded by a ring of Mountains, knows as “Sekoteng sa lifarike” which means “The trough which the pigs have dug!”  Chieftainess Matelang is your host.
Overnight at Rural Village.   

Day 7-All meals-Included!
Today is very a long trek of 7 hours back ,but definitely worth a Hot Shower and HOME COOKED FOOD!.
Overnight at Lodge.

Day 8-Breakfast -Included only!
Transfer back to the airport in 4x4 vehicle.

PLEASE NOTE: When the Makhaleng River is in flood, we have to use the bridge .  This lengthens the trek on Day 1 and Day 7 by about another 2 hours extra making the trek really long.

  •                                                               GENERAL INFORMATION & TIPS FOR HORSE RIDING! 
  • THIS IS AN ADVENTURE AT YOUR OWN RISK. PLEASE LEAVE YOUR MEDICAL NAME & NUMBER AT RECEPTION IN CASE OF ANY EMERGENCY EVACUATION REQUIRED. INDEMNITY FORMS TO BE SIGNED.   
  • Slackpacking/Hiking – a packhorse and a Local guide to carry luggage up to 50kgs. The weight limit per saddle (pannier) bag is 25 kg (50 kg per pack horse, usually 3 people’s luggage to 1 packhorse). Should you run out of space in the panniers, please enquire about the possibilities of hiring an extra pack horse.  

General Hiking Information. 
Please remember that these hikes are rough and tough, no frills whatsoever, i.e. No showers, you bathe in the plastic basins and streams No Flush Toilets, only Long Drop Toilets, No Chairs, very few tables. Etc.

We supply: ● Cutlery, crockery, pots and pans. ● Mattresses on the floor at the overnight huts. ● Gas cooker only if using a packhorse ● Bucket of fresh spring water for cooking, drinking and washing. (If you have a sensitive stomach use water purification tablets or boil the water first before drinking). If you need to use cutlery and crockery during the day – away from the huts i.e. for example, for lunch, then you will need to bring your own utensils and crockery just for lunches, but most people tend to make sandwiches at the huts to take with them or have a finger lunch.   

What to bring: ● Sleeping Bags ● Rain Suit & Warm clothing ● Sunscreen & Hat ● Torch, Candles or Gas Light ● Water Bottle – Water Purifying Tablets (Optional) ● First Aid Kit .

Suggested items of Clothing Other necessary items Change of clothing Long sleeve trousers and long sleeve shirts. No Chairs, very few tables. Etc. Drinks: Bottled water, wines & beer are available for sale at the Lodge for "Happy Hour(s)!!!!"   
Suggested Food List for Horse Treks and Trails-Included- Please note-that this is a Self-Catering itinerary and you all have to cook you own meals. Before and after the pony trek! Below are supplied by Lodge, unless you’d like to buy your own food? Breakfast: Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Hot Chocolate, Long-life Milk, Rusks, Muesli, apples, Oranges. Lunch: Provita biscuits, Seed Loaf, Margarine/Butter Processed Cheese, Carrots, Cucumber, Lettuce, Tuna Mayonnaise, Tinned Ham & Beef, Mussels, Chocolates. Dinner: Cup soup, Chinese Noodles, Smash, Pasta, Pasta Sauces (alacan or packet) Rice omits, Indian Tomato Curry Cans, Chakalaka, Toppers, Tinned Veggies, Tinned Fruit, Ultramel Custard, Tinned Caramel & Biscuits. Drinks: Bottled water, wines & beer are available for sale at the Lodge.
